WHEN I wrote some weeks ago suggesting that local artists form a group I did not anticipate the response I would attract.

I said then that artists should fly in the face of convention' and create a gallery my idea being that a small group of like-minded people could be formed to work together to publicise our art through artistic action.

I wanted simply to open a ware-house where people could have floor space to create, the public would be free to wander through and see art in the making, buy paintings or sculptures and sit and drink tea or coffee and commission paintings.

I believe this would work because the rent would be paid by income generated from within the group and the atmosphere would be conducive to creativity.

After reading many of the letters sent in reply, it seems to me I was being selfish and my plan would not work for everyone but then that would be an impossibility.

I propose, therefore, that anyone who is interested in doing something about the current sitiuation should come to a get together at Upstairs Downstairs' on Morecambe promenade on Friday, August 13, at 2pm to take the diccussion forward.

We could throw ideas around and try to come up with a positive suggestion which would be of benefit to most people.
