WHAT a wonderful turnout there was last week for the parade in protest at the planned closure of Greaves nursery school.
It was great to see support not just from parents and residents but from city councillors too. The fight has now started and will proceed to the bitter end.
After the announcement by Chancellor Gordon Brown a few days ago with regard to provision for children, perhaps Lancashire can be persuaded to follow his lead and let Greaves nursery remain.
It is simply ludicrous to consider closing it at the same time as building new offices at Bowerham School and giving children the space that is left.
Many years ago I fought to have Newton School rebuilt on the Ridge. That was a very successful campaign and I am sure the battle for Greaves nursery will be just as good.
I invite county councillors to come to Lancaster and see the little gem of a nursery that we have here. All children have names, not numbers.
Cllr Janet Horner, Lancaster City Council.
