STEPHEN Booth is right to describe the ongoing building work at Lancaster University as an eyesore (Letters, July 15). The university and construction firms have a lot to answer for to local residents.
However, I disagree with his assessment of the now completed InfoLab21 building.
Far from being unspeakably ugly', I consider it to be a bold, striking architectural statement that makes a welcome change from the boring institutional look of the adjacent Graduate College.
While it is currently a little bright compared to the surrounding landscape, within a few months the copper cladding will fade to a lovely soft green as found on roofs and church domes in London and other European cities.
Of course buildings must be designed with consideration of how they will fit in. But an interesting building like this can contribute to the look of the landscape rather than just adding more concrete.
