AFTER throwing himself off buildings and wing walking in box office smashes, a stuntman has opened a martial arts school in Morecambe.

Martin Shenton, who nymbers the James Bond hit Tomorrow Never Dies, the Plan Man, Wire in the Blood and many more movies on his CV, has forked out nearly £180,000 so local people can learn martial arts and the basics of stunt work.

Martin, who lives in Morecambe with his wife and two kids, has bought a dilapidated building on Regent Road and spent weeks revamping it.

He has made the venture his full-time job and the former brickie says he loves it.

After shelling out £2,000 to clear rubbish, he has decked out the first room with a wooden floor and mirrors to house his Lancashire Tae Kwan Do Academy.

As well as taking people through the ranks of karate, Jiu-Jitsu and Tae Kwan Do, he will also take his teaching onto another level.

He hopes classes in choreographing fight scenes could soon pop up on the menu.

"There is nothing for kids around here yet there is a large pocket of talent people just need somewhere to showcase it.

"Also, martial arts are not just for people to defend themselves but to be creative.

"These classes will get children and adults back into sport in a new and innovative way and show them how sport plays a huge part in films and stage work."

He believes that by developing the Regent Road Studios, which he hopes will include a restaurant at the front, it will improve the look and feel of that part of Morecambe.
