EXCITEMENT and fear are living side by side at Lancaster City as a new era dawns for the club.

The Dolly Blues enter the new Nationwide Conference North League full of hope.

But there is also the worry that things might not quite work out as planned as the club's Centenary in 2005 approaches.

Commercial manager Les Taylor says: "I only hope that our newly acquired status can capture the imagination of the Lancaster public so we can awaken the sleepy Giant Axe.

"It has been a long road back since chairman Ron Moore saved the club in 2001 and we hope the centenary will also be the year we can make a leap forward by challenging for honours so we can celebrate in style."

Off the field, the Dolly Blue Tavern will host a sponsors' evening on July 31, when present and potential sponsors will mingle as City turn on the charm to attract investment for the campaign ahead.

Anyone interested in attending the presentation - which will include a buffet, disco and comedian - can call les Taylor on 01524-841710 or 07764-589500 for more details.

A golf gala day is also planned at Ashton Golf Centre on August 13 - the day before the new season kicks off with a match against Stafford Rangers.

Radio Lancashire presenter Norman Prince will host the event which promises several celebrity names turning out to help raise cash for City. Details are from Les, as above.

City matchday secretary Mike Sparks has been forced to resigned because of business commitments, leaving the club searching for a volunteer to take over the vital role. Call Les on 01524-841710.
