Kirkby Stephen probably conceded interest in the Eden Valley League first division title with defeat at Carleton on Saturday. Carleton scored 228 for 6 in their 40 overs and an under strength Kirkby could only muster 136 in reply.
But Kirkby returned to winning form on Sunday in the quarter final of the league cup against Blencathra at Threlkeld. Kirkby won the toss and, with their batsmen in fine form, amassed 237 runs. Blencathra could only manage 174 all out by the 39th over.
Star men for Kirkby were Chris Scarr 45, Paul Thornborrow 55, Bryn Davies 37 (including 23 off one over), Simon Turner 38 and David March 41. Chris Scarr also took two early wickets and a magnificent' catch in the gully to dismiss Blencathra's top scorer.
Next week, Kirkby are at home in the league to Caldbeck.
