A CYCLING holiday in Italy was the inspiration for a collection of prints from a local artist now on display in the city.

David French is showing his solo exhibition at the Fat Olive Cafe and at Williamson Park until the end of March.

Memories of Florence, Rome and the Chianti Valley are depicted in vibrant colour and swirling skies.

"The places I've painted are a representation of the style and mood of the country," says David. "Italy is the most inspiring place that I have visited. It is very colourful and cultural country and I hope to go back in the future."

Generally David focuses on atmospheres that can be created within a painting using various techniques.

"The colours, brushstroke and content are all important factors that, if used in a certain way, will indicate the mood of a picture. I like to see in my paintings an image that makes you feel something is going to happen," he says.
