A THUMPING Giant Axe win over lowly Burscough on Tuesday has lifted Lancaster City to tenth place in the Unibond League table.

And for the first time this season they look secure in the top half after the 4-0 victory - for several teams around them lost their midweek games.

A first half strike from Steve Jones was followed by goals from Jamie Hughes, Ryan Elderton and Gary Bauress in the second period - making it 10 without reply in the last two home games for City.

The only disappointment for the Dolly Blues' management was the crowd of just 249.

Commercial manager Les Taylor says that because of the crucial nature of the league re-org-anisation this year, every game between now and the end of the season is like a cup final.

There will be no meaningless end-of-season matches as teams aim to stay in the vital top 13 - so City need more fans to get behind them on the run-in.

Les told the Citizen: "We won't be happy until we are getting around 500 people coming regularly to Giant Axe home games."
