I thought some of you might be interested in more information about the Brewery Arts Centre's Anne Pierson Award for Young Writers - the award ceremony, on Saturday 20 March, is in the All Write events listings.

The Award was launched this year by the Trustees of the Brewery Arts Centre in recognition of the achievements of the former Director, Anne Pierson, and it reflects Anne's particular interest in the creative development of young people.

The three winning entries this year, on the theme of Journey, will be announced at the Ceremony - which "is to be hosted by a leading author" and extracts from the short list of 20 will be read by the young people on the short list, and by local young actors.

The prizes are for the most outstanding submission, each for two runners up and book-tokens for the remainder of the shortlist. The judges include two local writers: children's author Janni Howker, and poet Jacob Polley, along with writer Philip Edwards who now lives in Kendal, but has been a professor of English at universities in Dublin, Liverpool and Essex.

Excerpts from the work of the entire short-list will be published in an anthology next Autumn.
