AUTHORS and publishers are being encouraged to enter their favourite books of 2003 in this year's Lakeland Book of the Year.

The books can be about any aspect of life in Cumbria from local history to poetry. The only rule is that they must all have been published in 2003.

The competition was founded 20 years ago by author Hunter Davies with the Cumbria Tourist Board and Director of the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, Vicki Robinson. Hunter Davies will again this year be heading the panel of expert judges.

He said: " The Lakeland Book of the Year has established itself as a really prestigious event on the literary calendar. It's a chance for us to celebrate our home grown talent and I'd encourage anyone to enter"

There will be five categories, yet to be confirmed and the winners will receive £100 and a framed certificate.

Entrants should call 015394 40416 for an application form and send four copies of their book to Shelia Lindsey, Cumbria Tourist Board, Ashleigh, Holly Road, Windermere, Cumbria. LA23 2AQ.
