A HALE resident is battling with Cumbria County Council to have a road resurfaced which, he says, has been in an irredeemable' state for more than six years.
The U5432, which runs parallel to the A6, leads to a bridleway and serves 13 houses, including that of Cleland McIntyre, of Primrose Bank.
The surface, he explained, has become a safety issue. "Because of the number of potholes, some of which have been filled over very roughly, it's very dangerous walking down the road in bad light," he said.
Mr McIntyre has written numerous letters of complaint to the highways department of CCC about the deteriorating condition of the road and hedges over the last two years, with little success.
Spokesman for CCC, Denis Inch, said, "We are aware that work needs to be done on the U5432 but, due to this year's budget, resurfacing work was not possible. However, all roads in the district will be looked at in an annual assessment this September and any repairs will depend on the sate of the road and the available funds."
