NEW roadworks due to start next week will cause more delays for thousands of motorists on the M6 until next summer.
The £7.2 million resurfacing work north of Lancaster, from Junction 34 to north of Junction 35 of the motorway, will start on Monday, November 24, and will last until August 2004, according to the Highways Agency.
A 50 mph speed limit will be enforced by speed cameras and two lanes will be kept open during the day, but possibly only one at night.
Highways Agency project manager Phil Davies said the limit was needed for the workers’ safety.
Slip roads at Carnforth will also be closed occasionally and traffic sent around a diversion.
More than 60,000 motorists use the 10km (about six miles) stretch of the motorway every day. Freight and bus operators said the work was necessary but disruptive.
