Dozens of people have signed up to help raise money for children with Special Educational Needs.

Friends of Sandside Lodge School in Ulverston are looking for people to join them on the Cross Bay Walk.

The charity, run by parents and friends of the school, are preparing to cross the sands and raise money to help support the students at Sandside Lodge.

They are hoping to raise around £1,000 which will go towards helping the school achieve their dream of building a new community cafe in one of their empty spaces.

The Special Educational Needs school caters for pupils between the ages of two and 19 who have learning difficulties and additional, complex needs.

The first guided Cross Bay Walk of the year will take place on Saturday May 4, and will set off from Arnside at 2.30pm.

At least three students from Sandside school will be joining the walk with their families.

After meeting at The Albion Pub in Arnside, the group will be guided by a team from the Guide Over Sands Trust.

Walkers will cover around seven to eight miles of sandy shore as they cross from Arnside to Grange, a journey which is expected to take approximately 4 hours to complete.

So far, Friends of Sandside Lodge School, have registered 70 walkers for the trek across the sands, but they are keen reach 100.

A spokesman for Friends of Sandside Lodge said: “We’re all looking forward to the walk, some have done it before and for others, it’s their first time.

“We’re hoping for some nice weather and are quite relieved that the train line between Barrow and Arnside has been repaired so that our walkers can get to the start of the walk at Arnside.”

This is the first time the charity has organised a group to take part in the cross bay walk, which they have been planning and arranging since February.

The cost of participation is £15 per person. To secure your place please email: baywalksandside@gmail.com
