A TAEKWONDO club enjoyed another weekend of success at the National Championships.

Summerlands Taekwondo visited the British Taekwondo National Championships on September 29 at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Taking eight competitors, the group returned home with three bronze, one silver and oneg old medal for the new National Champion in the child -36kg category.

Ryan Lightley, lead coach and instructor at Summerlands, spoke of his 'pride' and 'respect' for his students.

He said: "It’s never easy at this level, especially for the advanced fighters who potentially may be competing against seasoned international players, however as always, the squad did me proud and gave their all.

"The fights were in very close succession which gave very little time for recovery before fighting the next and so consequently we had some very exhausted and emotional kids (and parents).

"Nonetheless, they powered on to achieve some fantastic results, and I  couldn’t be prouder of their effort and determination.

"They are a fantastic group of kids ranging from 5 to 16 years of age, and the support and encouragement they show for one another is admirable and awe-inspiring. They fully deserve their achievements, and I can’t wait to do it all again next year."
