A NUMBER of public tourist attractions around Windermere have been described as "tired" and "not fit for purpose" in a key report published this week.

The document, presented to the Lake District National Park Authority on Wednesday, states much of the built environment in the area "does not provide a world class visitor experience" to match the region's spectacular natural landscape.

A series of attractions including The Glebe, in Bowness, to Waterhead, at Ambleside, are said to be under par.

But they feature in ambitious future development plans entitled the Lake Windermere Waterfront Programme contained within the report.
