THE British National Party will not field any candidates in South Lakeland during next month's local government elections - despite declaring 11 weeks ago that it planned to fight "multiple seats" in the district for the first time.
The BNP says it has pulled out of contesting wards on South Lakeland District Council because it wants to focus its efforts fighting seats on Carlisle City Council.
In January, the party declared it would target SLDC seats after a drive to increase support in Kendal, which included a leafleting campaign, had a "dramatic effect" on BNP membership numbers in the town.
