THE amount of waste being sent from Kendal to landfill has reached a record monthly low, South Lakeland District Council's monthly meeting was told.
An increased focus on recycling led to a 20 per cent reduction of landfill waste in September compared to the same month last year, according to a report from Coun Brenda Woof, the council's environment and sustainability portfolio-holder.
She said the recycling and composting rate to the end of the month was around 42 per cent, which was a direct consequence of kerbside recycling.
The scheme, which was introduced to Kendal in March, was extended to other South Lakeland communities on October 22.
