GRANGE-OVER-SANDS railway station has beaten off competition from Ireland, England and Holland to be crowned the Best Small Station in Europe' at a glitzy awards ceremony at the National Railway Museum, in York.
Judges praised the station for its facilities, friendly service, cleanliness and passenger information and remarked on how well it had been restored to retain its character, while offering what was needed in the 21st century. They also commented on the community involvement at the station.
The First TransPennine Express managed station was shortlisted alongside Appleby Station and stations in Arklow, Ireland, and Barendrecht, in Holland.
