A SOUTH Lakeland man who has spent more than a year trying to set up a community radio station has complained of being verbally abused for his efforts.

Paul Broadbent, of Kirkby Lonsdale, hopes to raise enough money to launch a dedicated community station for the Lune Valley, but told the town council his work had been greeted by "offensive" comments from residents.

Earlier this year, the small team behind the Voice project was given a £10,000 incentive to continue chasing its dream by The National Lottery. But, with initial set-up costs estimated at £85,000, and just months before the Voice's licence for the airwaves runs out, the project could be ditched if more support cannot be gathered.
