DAVID McNiven could be thrown straight into Morecambe action as the Shrimps look to bounce back to form at Exeter City on Saturday.
Sammy McIlroy recalled the striker from his loan spell at Stafford Rangers after Tuesday's shocking 1-0 home loss to lowly Altrincham.
And he is set to start at St James' Park as McIlroy looks to shake things up.
"Dave has been scoring while on loan at Stafford and that's what I sent him out for, to get some matches under his belt, says McIlroy.
Chris Blackburn is also pressing for a recall to the side as Morecambe make the mammoth trip to Devon.
