AN APPEAL has been launched to help find members of a group of Eastern European Jewish girls who were evacuated to Windermere during the Second World War.

One of these girls, Ruth David (neé Oppenheimer) is to give a talk about her experiences at the Marchesi Centre in Windermere at 2pm on Tuesday, March 20.

Susan Katz, who is involved in a project about refugee children that came to Windermere during the Second World War, is trying to find as many of Mrs David's former school friends as possible.

The girls came from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia, lived in a hostel and attended St Mary's School with local children from June 1940 until the end of the war.

Mrs David has since written a book about her experiences called A Child Of Our Time'.

Anyone who can remember the children can contact Susan Katz on 015394-45987 or at susankatz@tiscali.co.uk
