A DECISION to make controversial changes to Cumbria's meals on wheels service is to be scrutinised at a meeting today (Friday).
Three Labour councillors have called in the decision to raise the cost of meals on wheels from £1.60 to £2.60 from April 1 to CCC's Adult Social Care Scrutiny Panel.
In February, Cumbria County Council voted to make the changes to the meals on wheels service, which provides elderly and disabled people with meals in their own home.
As well as the price hike, the changes also include stopping delivering hot meals to people who have been assessed as not needing any other services. Instead, these users would be offered alternative options, such as frozen meals.
Direct cash payments will also be available for people who want to buy a meal through a pub or cafe.
