AN MP has made a fresh formal complaint about proposed cuts to Kendal's Westmorland General Hospital.
Tim Farron, the MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, has sent the complaint to the Healthcare Commission, the independent inspection body for the NHS.
As previously reported, Mr Farron and other campaigners had originally sent objections to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, following the decision to develop plans to close the Kendal hospital to urgent medical admissions such as heart attack and stroke patients.
The ombudsman has now told the MP that complaints about the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust's decision should first be considered by the Healthcare Commission.
Mr Farron maintained that although he was "irritated" that it had taken several months to reach this point, campaigners had a "very strong case".
