AN historic South Lakeland building could be transformed into a luxury self-catering holiday park if planners give the proposal the green light.
Merlewood, near Grange-over-Sands, was built for the Manchester businessman Alfred Binyon in 1853.
But the listed building and grounds, used most recently as a research base for the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, could become 54 self-catering apartments for HPB Management Ltd if an application to South Lakeland District Council is approved.
