A SCHEME to improve safety on the A590 near Kendal is scheduled to begin on Monday (March 19).
The works will see the section of road between the Meathop Roundabout and Gilpin Bridge resurfaced with a special skid-resistant material and new markings and traffic signs installed on the road.
Work will be carried out overnight and the Highways Agency plans to reduce the road to a single lane in each direction.
Temporary traffic signals will also be in operation nightly between 7pm and 7am during which time a 10mph speed limit will be in force.
All lay-bys and bus stops along the route will be closed throughout the scheme and traffic at the Millside junction will be directed to an alternative junction on the other side of the road.
The project is scheduled for completion by the end of March.
