LAKE District planners have given permission to the Low Wood Hotel on Windermere to redevelop existing jetties designed for water ski boats with jetties and mooring points for larger sailing and motor boats.

The scheme, which also includes the provision of a fuel jetty, sewage pump-out facility and commercial launch access, will enable the Low Wood Ski Centre, which the hotel owns, to diversify its operations, and so continue to function, when the 10mph speed limit comes into force on the lake in a month's time.

An earlier proposal had been refused by the National Park Authority because it was on too large a scale, with a floating jetty structure that would have projected too far out into the lake.
