A NEW Sunday music slot is set to take off next month as a Kendal pub sets about making a name for itself on the South Lakeland scene.

As of February 6, Bar Nexus will be serving up live music with its cold pints.

First on the bill are Storm who will be followed by the likes of Gerry Gillard and Cliff Rescue and The Helicopters.

Landlord Simon Tomlinson, who has already launched a Friday night spot for fledgling bands at The George and Dragon, said the two nights would help give up-and-coming bands a leg up on the local music scene.

"We already have Friday nights in the George for giving up-and-coming bands a chance to break through but Sunday night at Nexus will be for more established acts," he said.

He said the Friday night could be used as a platform for smaller bands to build up a base before maybe getting a slot at Nexus, which one young band have already done.

"The Riffs started out playing in The George a few weeks ago and they brought quite a following so we've booked them for Nexus," he said. "Hopefully some of the other young bands who play at the George will eventually be able to do the same the world's their oyster so to speak."

This month at Nexus: Feb 6, Storm; Feb 13, Gerry Gillard; Feb 20, Cliff Rescue and The Helicopters; Feb 27, Off The Record.
