A SIGNIFICANT and impressive exhibition of still life paintings and studies by two local artists begins at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal on February 12.

The Warehouse Gallery will house the collection of work by Kate Bigland and Michael Jenkins who are both established Brewery artists until April 3.

An interlinking theme within the two artists' figurative work is the human form, which they say represents a huge challenge.

A statement released by the pair said: "The human figure has incredible complexity within it.

"It is an inescapable mystery encompassing beauty and individuality while becoming a landscape in its own right, sometimes echoing nature and vice versa.

"Art may be an illusion and is always a struggle. In the end the result is a very personal and subjective view.

"The hope is that these images will strike a chord with some people."
