FIVE pals, whose friendship was born out of their love for music, will share their passion with the Barrow crowd this weekend when their band makes its Cumbrian debut.

Tretirany have only been together three months but tomorrow (Saturday) the group's unique reggae, swing and roots sound will warm up the stage for locals Nothin' Less.

Although new to the scene, Tretirany have already clocked up a number of gigs; however the Canteen event is set to be particularly special for singer Luke Evans and keyboardist Sam Dixon, both of whom hail from the area and will be playing to friends and family.

Sam, 19, who is from Hawkshead, and Luke, also 19, from Windermere, met at the Lakes School, Troutbeck Bridge, where they became friends through their love of music before moving to Kendal College together to study music. There they met course-mate Mike Chaplin, 21, and after completing their two-year diplomas the trio headed to Newcastle where they are mid-way through another music course.

It is with two other equally-passionate players from their current course - 19-year-old drummer Sian Evans, and bass guitarist David Coverdale, 20 - that they formed Tretirany in January, influenced by the likes of Lee Scratch Perry and Fat Freddy's Drop.

Sam explained: "We write and compose all our own music and the material is already gaining a following. In the last month we have played our first couple of gigs in Durham and a couple of weeks ago we played in Manchester with the Autonomads.

"Our style is a mash-up of different genres - mainly dub, reggae and ska. It's all our own stuff and we think we've got a great, fresh new sound that's going to go down well in 2008.

"We've already had very positive feedback from music professionals within the industry as well as an amazing response from the people we have played to. We've got big plans for the future and Luke and I are really looking forward to playing back in our own area."

Tomorrow's gig at the Canteen Media and Arts Centre starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available by calling the venue on 01229-822113.
