FANS of Radio 1's Breakfast Show will be familiar with the latest hot act to play at Lancaster Library.

Warner Brothers' brand new signing, Doug Walker (above), has been lined up as support for Indie gospel singer Dawn Kinnard on April 26, and among the tracks he is set to perform is the demo that won him huge national exposure after he thrust it into the hands of passing DJ, Chris Moyles, outside the BBC's London studios.

"I wasn't imagining he'd actually play it!" laughed Walker, of that fateful day back in August 2007. "Chris came out a few times and I think he was sussing me out. Before he gave me this amazing opportunity he was checking that I was worth it and appreciated it."

Moyles played the self-penned The Mystery that same morning and received such an overwhelming response from impressed listeners that he played it twice more, eventually giving the plucky singer 30 minutes of primetime coverage. Within hours, Walker's myspace page had been swamped by fans and the following day he signed a management deal, recorded a video for The Mystery and was featured in tabloid newspaper, The Sun.

He has since supported Craig David, The Enemy and Amy McDonald and next Saturday will travel to Lancaster to join Q Magazine favourite, Kinnard, along with fellow support act, cool new singer songwriter Jay Jay Pistolet.

The trio are playing the city's library as part of the award-winning Get it Loud initiative - a pioneering project aimed at getting young people into libraries and which has featured in the pages of NME, Dazed and Confused and even Vogue.

Stewart Parsons, founder of the Lancaster project - which has also welcomed Adele, Bat for Lashes and The Wombats to the city - said he was delighted with the latest booking.

"Doug Walker writes very catchy pop tunes, pure and simple. This bill is going to be a fantastic opportunity for people to see three great new artists in an intimate venue. People are in for a treat," he said.

Tickets cost £6 and are on sale now from Lancaster Library, www.seetickets. com and the LUSU shop at Lancaster University. Telephone 01524-580712 or 01524-580714.
