Mountain rescuers were called out this week after three 999 calls were made from a notorious rescue hot spot in the Lake District.
Just before 2pm, Coniston Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by Cumbria police after they were contacted by a mobile phone located at Old Man of Coniston.
Officers were unable to speak with the caller and could not get an answer to their returned calls.
They contacted the nearest mountain rescue team who quickly initiated a search.
The volunteers soon found themselves heading back, however.
A spokesperson for Coniston Mountain Rescue Team said: "It transpired that a walker’s phone in his pocket was being pressed and auto-dialling 999.
"The incident involved 8 team members for 15 minutes before standing down, excluding those travelling to base who turned back."
