Littleborough 74 Blackpool RUFC 7

Blackpool started the game as if they were out to prove a point by winning their first league match of the season but this was not to be.

They put pressure on the home defence for the first ten minutes but were unable to cross the line and score.

They were awarded a penalty on the 8 minute mark but unfortunately full back Sean Donnelly was unable to kick it.

Littleborough eventually found their feet and in the 12th minute scored an unconverted try to open their account.

This seemed to signal a steady scoring procession for the home side as they opened up the scoring to 40-0 before Blackpool managed to pull one back.

The Blackpool try came about from some excellent work by the backs helped by the Blackpool prop Chris Parlour, the move culminating in the inside centre John Charles crossing the line to score after some good lines of running.

Full back Donnelly this time slotted over his kick to pull the score back to 40-7.

The second half started with Littleborough scoring again in only the 2nd minute of the half.

The home side carried on scoring approximately every 5 minutes until, with the score at 64-7, Blackpool came Back into the game.

They failed to score but, after some staunch defending, managed to keep the score down to the final 74-7.

Blackpool again never let their heads drop and kept going until the bitter end even though they were again on the end of a severe beating.

They play their last match of the league campaign next week when they entertain Eccles at home, a game which they will be going all out to win.

On another note, Blackpool have applied for entry to the Miller Homes league so they can run a 2nd XV next season therefore all prospective players will be made very welcome at the club.
