Fylde Rugby Club will be delighted to welcome 40 schools (and 42 teams) to its 62nd National Schools 7s Tournament, a major fixture in the English schools 7s calendar. Once more it's sponsored by the Royal Navy. The 2008 Tournament will be held on Saturday & Sunday, 8th & 9th March 2008.
Some 450 young rugby players, plus teachers, parents and other spectators will descend on Fylde's Lytham St Annes ground for a great spectacle and showcase of rugby talent. The schools come from all over the UK. Once again we are delighted that the Royal Navy are sponsoring the event.
40 schools (42 teams) have entered the Tournament this year including Ivybridge Community College, Devon, winners of the competition in 2007, and St Ambrose College, Cheshire, winners in 2006.
As in the past, it will be a two day competition with the format as before i.e. leagues followed by the three knockout competitions. The top two in each group will go into the Main competition, the next two into the Plate and the remaining two into the Bowl competition. The draw for the Tournament is available on the Club's website at www.fylderugby.co.uk Commodore Jim Patrick, Director of Naval Recruiting said: "We're delighted to be working in partnership once again with Fylde Rugby Club in hosting the 2008 National School 7s. Sport plays a big part in Naval life and the qualities of commitment, teamwork and physical fitness required by those participating in the game of rugby football mirror those attributes we are looking for in prospective recruits and potential officers." Commodore Patrick is a member of the Royal Navy Rugby Union's Executive.
Tournament Organiser Nigel Pollard said: "The Royal Navy has been fantastic supporters of this Tournament for the last five years. We're really pleased that they're working with us again this year and that once again we've attracted an outstanding group of schools. English schools rugby is a very real beneficiary of this support."
Fylde Rugby Club nestles in the North West premier holiday resort area, providing both major tourist attractions and a wide range of competitively priced accommodation.
Fylde Rugby Club's splendid new Clubhouse will provide additional facilities to make this tournament even more memorable.
