Fylde's under-14 side have ended the season on a high after winning a dramatic Lancashire Cup Final against Manchester.

Fylde won The Blacksticks Blue Challenge Cup at Sefton in dramatic fashion after the scores were tied at 10-10 at full time.

As both teams were level on try, penalty and conversions the match was decided on a drop kick competition. Both teams had to nominate 5 players and the team scoring the most (of 5) kicks from the 22 metre line won.

In the event, Fylde won this 2 goals (Arciniega and Trippier) to 1 and so deservedly took the Cup.

Manchester stated the game very strongly utilising a game centred around their powerful forwards and it was only after about 5 minutes of play that they were awarded a penalty which was successfully taken to give them an early 3 point lead.

Manchester continued to rely on their heavier pack to dominate a very subdued Fylde side who had scarcely seen the ball. This pressure inevitably lead to a forwards try which was converted to give Manchester a 10-0 lead.

Fylde however defended very well from this point and went into half time just 10-0 down.

The second half was however the total opposite of the first with Fylde pressuring the Manchester defence from the re-start. This soon led to a penalty which was successfully converted by Emilio Arciniega to give Fylde a glimmer of hope.

As the half progressed Fylde began to get back into the game and their forwards began to win ball from the now tiring Manchester forwards.

Eventually Fylde used their speedy backs and a neat move started by centre James Aird saw the ball eventually get to centre Tom Higham who sprinted in behind the posts to bring the score to 8-10, with an easy conversion successfully taken by captain Emilio Arciniega to level the score at 10-10.

The remainder of the half saw Fylde dominance and the chance to put the game beyond Manchester when a try in the corner was disallowed, when powerful lock Michalis Papangelis took a quick tap penalty on the 5m line and tried to force himself over for what would have been a decisive score.

Unfortunately, this wasn't to be and thus the game went into the unexpected and unusual finale which went Fylde's way.

This was a gritty performance by Fylde who battled their way back into contention from a mediocre first half by their high standards of play this season to clinch a well deserved win.
