Blackpool RUFC rounded off their season with a win against a touring side from Whitley Bay in a close fought match.

Early on Blackpool breached the visitors' defence when winger Andy Charles went on a storming run to score under the posts, rounding it off by converting it himself to open up the scoring at 7 0. Whitley Bay were not going to take this lying down and got themselves back into the reckoning when they scored an unconverted try to peg the score back to 7 5.

Play then centred on midfield with both sides trying to gain the upper hand. Blackpool eventually gained the advantage when they scored again. This time flanker Nick Perks went over for a try but unfortunately the conversion was missed but the lead was now 12 5 in Blackpool's favour and it remained so until half time.

Blackpool did their usual half time mass change over. This change seemed to work to their advantage when Charles scored again within a minute. Flanker Leon Mason had assumed the kicking duties but unfortunately missed with his first attempt. Winger Charles, who was having a good all round game, went on another run from within his own half. After shrugging off a number of attempts to stop him, he passed the ball out to scrum half Reynolds to allow him to score. The try went yet again unconverted but Blackpool eased into a 17 point lead with the score at 22 5.

Blackpool scored thanks to a try from Reynolds when he picked up from the base of the scrum, dummied the defence and went over the line. With the score now at 27 10, Whitley Bay came back yet again and within 2 minutes they had pulled the score back to 27 15. Three minutes later Whitley Bay scored again to peg the score back to the final 27 20. With some desperate play by the visitors to try and win the match and some resolute defending by the home side the match ended with both sides being rightly proud of their performances.
