Blackpool finished their league campaign with a hard fought win away at Garstang.

The home side started the strongest and threw the proverbial kitchen sink at the Blackpool defence, which held firm with some fantastic midfield tackling however Garstang did eventually break through to open the scoring with a converted try.

The Blackpool scrum was again the cornerstone of their attack and was dominating a much bigger pack of forwards until Stu Charnock was sin-binned for a trip.

This gave Garstang the impetus to score again to lead 14-0. Blackpool again let themselves down with Dean Fitzmaurice sin- binned but somehow held firm to keep the score 14-0 at halftime.

The second half sawBlackpool coming out firing on all cylinders. It was Garstang's turn to be put under pressure and their defence crumbled when Mark Holden took a quick tap and burst through to score a converted try.

Garstang struggled with the pace of the Blackpool backs and Mario Yanous Panteli again proved what a player he is turning out to be with two fantastic tries on the wing, Sean Donnelly converted one of them and Blackpool led 19-14.

Garstang came back into the game but as in the first half the Blackpool defence stopped every attack thrown at them. From a Garstang scrum Phil Swindells stole the ball at the base of the scrum and put Blackpool on the attack, an outrageous dummy run from Mark Holden gave the space needed for Gary Woodall to score to seal the win. Garstang did score a consolation try in the last 3 minutes but Blackpool held out to complete the double 26-21.

Fantastic defence and pace in the backs produced the result with excellent performances from Mark Holden, Tom Cockcroft and Mario Yanous Panteli. Man of the match was given to debutante Dean Smith in the second row, another young player for the future.

Blackpool also took part in a four cornered competition at home at their Mossom lane ground. Touring teams from Bristol, Hull and Rochdale made up a very interesting and entertaining afternoon in which the Blackpool side were runners up.
