In a hastily arranged friendly, Blackpool played Sedgely Park's seconds at Mossom Lane on Saturday.

The Sedgely side, although much superior in the league that they play in did not have it all their own way.

They dominated in the first half with four converted tries to take them in at half time with a 28 0 lead.

Blackpool defended resolutely but were no match for the free running Sedgely back line although they did manage a couple of moves themselves, which were quickly snubbed out by a strong opposition defence.

The half time talk from the Blackpool coaching staff seemed to do the trick as, in the second half, they began to have periods of dominance themselves.

The Blackpool side latched on to the fact that Sedgely were structured around playing free running expansive rugby so the home side denied them the opportunity to do so.

The forwards began to push the Sedgely pack around and it quickly became evident that they did not like to "mix it up front". The Blackpool side was taking lineouts, apart from a brief spell, and scrummaging was definitely in Blackpool's favour.

The Blackpool pressure paid off in the 28th minute of the second half when, after chipping through and gathering his own chip, centre Tom Sumner sped over to score the home side's only try which went unconverted. Although there was never any chance of them losing the fixture, Sedgely were definitely rattled by the Blackpool onslaught but their defence held firm.

They eventually managed their only score of the second half with the last move of the game when they scored an unconverted try to take the score to the final 33 5.

Blackpool can look upon this fixture as a good experience for all of their players, particularly the younger ones who must have learned a lot from having played against such a high-class opposition.
