Top quality amateur rugby league will be coming once more to the Woodlands on Saturday, 24th May when Fylde RFC stages the prestigious Ace Insurance Europe BARLA National Cup Final and the BARLA Champions of Champions Final.
The National Cup finalists, who couldn't be farther apart in terms of miles, are National Conference League Premiers club East Hull from Humberside and National Conference League Division 1 side from Cumbria, Wath Brow Hornets.
East Hull defeated Conference League Division 1 side Thatto Heath Crusaders 20-18 but the visitors put up a tremendous fight before going down by two points and being 14-6 down at the break.
In the all Conference League clash Wath Brow Hornets held on to win a close encounter over Wigan side Ince Rose Bridge 14-12, who were hoping to reach their second successive final.
The Bartletts Champion of Champions final will take place ahead of the National Cup Final. A play-off on the 5th April will see Ashton Bears (Lancashire) entertain Sharlston Rovers (Yorkshire) to see who will join the three BARLA County Cup Winners of 2007 - Bank Quay Bulls (Lancashire), Ellenborough Rangers (Cumbria) and Queens (Yorkshire) - in the semi finals of the competition. The draw for these will be made after the game at Ashton and those ties will be played on Saturday 19 th April.
Spectators from these clubs, supplemented by neutrals who want to taste the unique Cup Finals atmosphere, will flock up and down the M6 to the Woodlands for what is confidently expected to be the biggest crowd of the season at this famous ground.
