Fleetwood Town have pulled off a transfer coup with the signing of full Northern Ireland international Sean Webb.

Webb has earned four caps, the most recent being the European Championship Qualifier home victory against Sweden in March 2007.

The defender was release by Accrington Stanley at the end of the 2007-2008 season and has since being playing in Iceland for ThorSport.

The 6ft 2in defender can play at either left back of central defence.

A product of youth set-up at Dungannon Swifts, Webb made his senior debut in December 1999 at 16.

He transferred to Ross County in September 2000 where he spent a season in their Under-19 team.

He made his Scottish League debut in August 2001 in a 2-0 win at Dumbarton.

He was also awarded Northern Ireland Under-19 caps during this time.

After 60 first team appearances for Ross County, Webb transferred to St Johnston in June 2004.

In May 2005 Webb returned to Ross County.

In May 2006 he was included in the Northern Ireland squad that embarked on a US tour. He made his full international debut as a late substitute against Uruguay .

With Ross County relegated to the Scottish Second Division in 2007, Webb sought a move to a higher level of football, signing for English League Two side Accrington Stanley on an initial four month loan deal with a view to extending it into 2008.

At the end of the season Webb was released.

Andy Pilley, Fleetwood Town FC chairman said: “It's fantastic to welcome someone with Sean's experience. He's wanted to move back to this area since going to Iceland and he fits the bill for our squad.

“This deal ticks all the boxes for both side. Signing another player with international honours clearly shows the direction of Fleetwood Town.”
