KIRKHAM & WESHAM'S promotion push received another welcome boost at home to Padiham on Tuesday evening when second-half goals from Martin Savigar and a late penalty from Ritchie Allen secured the points for Manger Mick Fuller's side.

Kirkham who battled bravely throughout against some tough tackling finally made the breakthrough just two minutes into the second-half when tormentor Ritchie Allen broke free on the left to deliver a pin point cross that ex-Bamber Bridge man Martin Savigar tucked away in the bottom right hand corner with a deft header.

And just three minutes later Mark Wane could have made it two when he went close with a neat volley.

Padiham's Wayne Morrison had an opportunity in the 56th minute to pull the game back level after some good work on the left from Jon Habiak but his shot sailed wide.

Late on both Wane and substitute Mike Clark went close, before Wembley hero Matt Walwyn introduced late in the game ran the Padiham defence ragged before substitute Andy Hargreaves felled him in the area.

Allen effortlessly tucked away the spot kick to cement Kirkham's promotion push.

Boss Fuller said later: "It was a tough game and while they didn't have a lot of chances they were always in the game and we had to work hard for the win.

"I've said all along that promotion is the main focus and l've tried to tell the lads this and to forget Wembley for the time being.

"I think we did that tonight and that pleased me, but these are the games we have to win if we want to go up."

Kirkham & Wesham scorers: Savigar 47, Allen 90 penalty.
