KIRKHAM & WESHAM hit back in style after Monday's loss at Chadderton by beating Cheadle Town 8-0 at Kellamergh Park on last night to fire themselves back into the promotion places.

Sean Paterson grabbed a second-half hat-trick inside 12 minutes, as the talented Ritchie Allen taunted the Stockport based side throughout in front of a record mid-week gate of 162.

Ged Smith broke the deadlock after 24 minutes with an a la Beckham punt from fully 60 yards out that sailed over Cheadle keeper Tony O'Keefe's head, and minutes later Allen made it two.

Former Bamber Bridge star Martin Savigar, making his first full start of the season fired in number three eight minutes before the break, before Mark Wane helped himself to a goal after 54 minutes, his 24th of the season.

Allen got his second 10 minutes from time with a delightful through ball played to his feet by sub James Sheppard, sandwiched in between Paterson's remarkable hat-trick.

For Cheadle there was just one positive attempt on goal in the whole 90 minutes - Matt Smith firing over the top five minutes before the break, and while they did have a goal ruled out for offside in the 79th minute but by then Kirkham were 6-0 up and well on their way to equalling their biggest win of the season.

Manager Mick Fuller said after: "We asked the lads to bounce back after the defeat at Chadderton on Monday and they did that.

"We needed these three points desperately and thankfully we got them and a few goals as well.

"It was nice to have a look at players in different positions tonight too - that was another objective."
