Norton United 0, Kirkham & Wesham 0

KIRKHAM Boss Mick Fuller rang the chances in this end of season stalemate in readiness for the teams FA Vase Wembley date in less than two weeks.

With just four players in the side who could realistically hope to start at Wembley, Fuller's side battled out their second goaless draw with Norton United in eight days in the Potteries on Tuesday night.

In a game void of any real clear cut chances the best fell to 26 goal striker Mark Wane after 37 minutes when debutant Sean Couch played in a telling ball that Wane drove hard for goal but was denied by United keeper Gary Goodwin who flung himself sideways to deflect away for a corner.

Both Nick Horne and Ritchie Allen went close in the last five minutes of a game played mainly in midfield by both sides with Norton's only real effort falling to winger Dean Smith after 31 minutes, but his chance was snuffed out by the covering Paul Paynter.

It's 503 minutes since Norton last scored a league goal and it showed, although Kirkham boss Fuller admitted later his side had other things to think about.

He said: "I thought we played it around nicely tonight.

"A point's a point and while l thought they would never score against us, we did create a few chances but I had the ideal opportunity tonight to rest some of my key players and I'll do so again at Stone on Thursday."

Kirkham, who clinched promotion at Castleton on Saturday now head south again in 48 hours to take on Stone, before ending their first season in the Vodkat North West Counties League Second Division with a trip to Leek CSOB on Saturday.
