Rain had the last say in Blackpool's game at Kendal on Saturday after the home side had posted a reasonable 214-5 before declaring with the weather closing in.

Blackpool only had time to face four balls from which they did not score before the rain drove the players from the field and brought about the abandonment.

The rain ruined the entire First Division Northern Premier League programme with only three games, including the Blackpool one, going to a second innings.

Ikram Ullah and Kevin Howarth started well for Kendal in the face of some good bowling particularly from Luis Reece. But it was Justin Kreusch who struck first when Howarth top edged to Mike Taylor at deep mid-wicket and he was gone for 18 at 42-1. Terry Hunte made a quick-fire 21 before steering Paul Danson to Michael Moore at backward point and that was 91-2. Gareth Asburner occupied the crease for some time but only made four runs before he left a ball from Danson that bowled him at 120-3.

Danson struck again at 151 when Kabir Khan was held at backward point by Moore for eight and the main run maker, Ullah, went at 199 when he was well caught by Kreusch at mid-wicket off Reece for 129, made from 146 balls with 21 fours. David Fallows made eight not out and Tony Yasin struck the final ball straight for six to leave him 13 not out as Kendal declared at 214-5 off 45 overs. The four balls that David Newton faced brought two unsuccessful appeals before the rain came in earnest and that was that.

Ian Austin just had time to make his second successive century for St Annes who had made 247-7 when the rains came. Austin's 105 was the top score with Duncan Whalley making 41 and Gareth Evans 40 as Leyland Motors' David Makinson took 4-80.
