South Shore Cricket Club’s first XI has won the Moore and Smalley-sponsored Palace Shield team of the month award for July.

The team, captained by Matthew Cowburn, scored a maximum 40 points in their four games in July to take an outright lead at the top of the division – and helped them win the monthly accolade.

Outstanding batting performances from Jamie Reddy, Ryan Norris, Ryan Gilfoyle and Dan Jardine helped South Shore secure four out of four wins against Caton, BAC/EE Preston, Walton-Le-Dale and Charnock Richard.

Captain and all-rounder, Matthew Cowburn, also took an 18 wicket haul across the four games.

Moore and Smalley partner, Deborah Wood, presented a bottle of bubbly to Ryan Gilfoyle, opening batsman for South Shore Cricket Club first XI.

Peter Jardine, chair of South Shore, said: “It is a major achievement to score maximum points in four games and also secure a top of the table position, all of which contributed to South Shore winning the team of the month award for July.

“However, what has really impressed me has been the overall ‘team’ attitude of the relatively young side that has stood out most throughout the season.”
