Great Eccleston Cricket Club’s 2nd XI has won the Palace Shield Loxham Cup after beating Vernon Carus in the final.

Vernon Carus batted first and made 133, with a knock of 38 from Chris Barnes, but Great Eccleston scored 137 for one to pick up the trophy sponsored by Moore and Smalley Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors.

Man of the match was 15-year-old Oliver Parkinson, from Poulton, who scored an unbeaten 68 to help Great Eccleston take the title.

Rob Kenmare, corporate finance partner at the cup’s sponsors Moore and Smalley presented Great Eccleston 2nd XI captain, Mustaq Mohammed, with the trophy.

Rob said: “Congratulations to Great Eccleston captain Mustaq Mohammed and his team for winning the Loxham Cup final.They put in a strong performance, especially Oliver Parkinson, who at only 15 showed great maturity and batted superbly to get 68 not out, and also thoroughly deserved man of the match award.”
