Great Eccleston Cricket Club has secured its third piece of silverware of the season after beating Fulwood and Broughton to win the Meyler Cup.
Batting first, Great Eccleston scored 166 for five, with James Thistlethwaite and Mohammed Nadeem striking up a successful partnership scoring 42 and 52 respectively, to win the Moore and Smalley sponsored Palace Shield Meyler Cup.
In return, Fulwood and Brougthon scored 110 with Great Eccleston’s bowler Will Proctor taking four for 17.
Mohammed Nadeem also took four for 31, which along with his batting performance secured him the man of the match award.
Deborah Wood, a partner at the cup’s sponsors, Moore and Smalley, presented the trophy to winning captain, Lee Yeomans, at BAC/EE Cricket Club, Riverside, Broadgate, Preston.
She said: “The game was played under damp conditions given the recent poor weather but that didn’t deter a strong turnout of around 250 people who came to watch the final.
“Although Great Eccleston had a bad start, they soon turned the performance around, especially with the outstanding batting partnership of James Thistlethwaite and Mohammed Nadeem, to go on and win the Meyler Cup.
"Congratulations to Great Eccleston Cricket Club on winning their second trophy in a week.”
