Blackpool travel to Watford this weekend looking to get back to winning ways after taking just one point from two games in the last week.

The Seasiders go into the match on the back of a battling 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace in miserable conditions at Bloomfield Road last Saturday, and a 2-0 defeat at Cardiff City on Tuesday night - the team's fourth game in eleven days.

Having started with the same eleven players for the last three games, manager Simon Grayson will have to assess the fitness and energy levels of his players before selecting his starting line-up for Watford.

The absence of Stephen Crainey, Stephen McPhee, Steve Kabba and Daniel Nardiello to injury is making it difficult to rotate players in the way the manager would want during such a tough run of games.

Watford will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat at Preston on Tuesday. The player to watch out for is 20-year-old midfielder John O'Toole, who has seven goals to his name already this season.

Consolation for the Blackpool players on their journey back from Cardiff will have come from the knowledge that they will never have to visit Ninian Park again! It is to be turned into a housing development after the end of this season, when Cardiff City are set to move into a new 26,500 seater stadium costing £29million.

Ninian Park has never been a very happy hunting ground, and the Seasiders lost 3-1 there last season.

Having contained City pretty well for 83 minutes, a goal from the head of substitute Guy Whittingham, who found space in the six yard box, was followed by an excellent Ross McCormack strike direct from a 25 yard free kick three minutes later, and the Seasiders' seven game unbeaten run was over.

The outcome might have been different had the referee seen events differently when the score was still 0-0.

Cardiff skipper Darren Purse was very fortunate to escape a second yellow card and the referee gave nothing when Shaun Barker was brought down in the Cardiff penalty area.

A frustrated Simon Grayson said after the game: “Some big decisions went against us and that it is frustrating. Ninian Park is a difficult place to come and sometimes you need referees who are brave enough to make decisions in the favour of the away team as well as the home team.

“We are disappointed to get within seven minutes of a point after working so hard. We try to play football every game but it didn't happen for us.”

One point at home to Palace on Saturday would have deservedly been three if substitute Adam Hammill had hit the target late on when clean through.

He shot wide when he seemed certain to score, but the game was played in atrocious conditions and it would have been harsh on the supporters from London, who were exposed to the wind and rain on the temporary stand all afternoon!

The Seasiders twice came from behind through second half goals scored by Ben Burgess, who volleyed his fifth goal of the season, and Ian Evatt, who scored his first ever league goal for Blackpool with a close range header from a wind-assisted Paul Rachubka free-kick.

The game could and should have gone Blackpool's way in the latter stages as they went in search of a winner and Adam Hammill, who looked lively after he came on as a substitute, was gutted to miss the best chance to seal all the points and raise his own profile. He has been slipping down the pecking order over the last few weeks but did himself no harm here despite his glaring miss.

Prior to Tuesday, Blackpool's previous defeat came at Burnley in mid-September and they then went to Birmingham and defied all predictions by winning the game.

That will be the aim at Watford, and to embark on another unbeaten run.
