Blackpool athlete Shelly Woods claimed her second medal of the Paralympics this afternoon.

Woods claimed a surprise silver medal in the 1,500metres final to win Great Britain’s 100th medal of these games, outsprinting Edith Hunkeler in the last 50metres to finish second.

She has already won bronze in the 5,000m rerun, and she came a creditable fifth in the 800m over the weekend, the weakest event of the four she has entered in Beijing.

Woods will now compete in the marathon tomorrow morning.
