Lytham's middle distance ace, Jono Prowse, and multi-eventer, Nia Rutter were Blackpool Wyre and Fylde Athletic Club's star performers at the British Athletics League 10 in 100 Plate Final at the Bedford International Stadium, last weekend.

After being doggedly tracked by Frank Kilama for five laps of the race, Jono upped the tempo on the penultimate lap of the 3000m to leave the Bexley athlete trailing 100 yards adrift in a winning time of 8 mins 46.0 secs.

In the field events, Nia Rutter confirmed her position as one of the North West's leading exponents of the triple jump with a clearance of 11.84m over 50cm. ahead of second placed Jade Morgan of Colchester.

Back on the track, the club's two leading junior sprint stars,Lucy Mansfield and Katy Wyper, who are both pupils at Kirkham's Carr Hill High School, demonstrated that they could more than hold their own with established senior opposition.

Katy came third in the 100m sprint in a time of 12.92 secs whilst Lucy was also placed third in the 200m in 26.26 secs.

In the men's track events, Ted Romney had to be content with 4th place in the 400m with 50.7 secs., a position matched by Tom Cunningham in the 800m (2 mins. 00.74 secs) and Simon Wells in the 200m (23.96 secs.).

While his daughter, Katy, 15, was busy mixing it with the senior women in the 100m sprint, Bob Wyper was earning valuable points for the club in the shot putt and discus where he was placed 5th and 6th respectively, recording throws of 9.69m and 28.58m for the two events.
