Blackpool Wyre and Fylde senior athletes produced a stunning performance in the British Athletetics League Semi-Final at the Stanley Park Arena, last weekend.

Competing in the new 10 in 100 format, comprising 10 events plus a medley relay for each sex to be completed in 100 minutes, the team produced seven individual winners.

In addition, the womens medley relay squad of Laura Davies, Lucy Mansfield, Elizabeth Hodgson and Leigh Newton stormed to victory in the final event in a superb time of 2 mins. 57.2 secs. to finish the day's proceedings a tantallising two points behind Premier Division team, Trafford Athletic Club who won the match 91 - 89 with Bolton United, a distant third on 54 points.

Ted Romney snatched victory in the 200m. sprint from Bingley's Matthew Cottam with both athletes given the same time of 22.5 secs.

Meanwhile, Lytham's Jono Prowse was an easy winner in the 1500m. in 4 mins. 08.6 secs. and Matthew Wright was well ahead of the field in the pole vault with a competant 4.00m. clearance.

The BWFAC ladies produced a further four individual winners with Scottish sprint champion, Laura Davies from Kirkham, a full eight yards clear of Bingley's Philippa Medley in a time of 12.30 secs.

Lucy Mansfield won the 200m. by a similar margin in 24.9 and distance runners, Gemma Unsworth and Carolyn Robbins were both in fine form with convincing victories in the 3000m. in 10 mins. 42.9 secs. and 1500m. in 5 mins. 12.8 secs. respectively.

The club's "Athlete of the month", Katie Holder was runner-up in in the pole vault with a clearance of 1.90m. and sprinter Katie Wyper achieved a new personal best performance in the long jump with a leap of 5.47m.

Alex Bale was just out dipped at the post in the 100m. sprint by Carlos Holder of Trafford AC. who won the event in 10.9 secs. to Bale's 11.0 secs.

The club's one lap specialist, Brent Starkie, fell just short of another sub-50 secs. timing with 2nd place in the 400m. in 50.2 secs. and teenager, James Davies mixed it well with the senior athletes, placing second in the long jump with a leap of 6.53m. Laurence Harwood performed well to take second place in the hammer throw event with 39.56m. and Stuart Robinson ran strongly to take third place in the 3000m. steeplechase in a time of 11 mins. 28.27 secs.

Sarah Goff established a new personal best performance to take 3rd. place in the 100m. hurdles in a time of 22.6 secs. whilst Liz Hodgson and Gemma Unsworth also achieved 3rd. spots in the 400m.(64.00 secs.) and Javelin(22.52m.) respectively.

The match started on a high note with young Darrel Constantine rising to the occasion by setting a new PB in the 110m. hurdles in a time of 23.6 secs. and finished with the medley relay squad of Simon Wells, Ted Romney, Alex Bale and Brent Starkie almost overhauling the crack Bingley squad - missing out by just 1/2 sec. in 2 mins. 27.7 secs. to Bingley's 2 mins. 27.2 secs.
